With book sales in general falling year on year, one company seems to be bucking the trend and in a spectacular fashion. Mirador Publishing, an independent publisher specialising in new authors, has today posted record sales figures showing a massive fourfold increase compared to the same quarter last year.
In an industry which seems to be struggling to find its way under the new wave of technology it's refreshing to find a company who seem to have not only adapted but positively embraced the new opportunities in publishing.
"We know how to sell books," said David Luddington, Mirador's Sales and Marketing Manager. "Publishing has changed forever. There are two new books being published every minute and yet the total number of books being purchased is in huge decline. That can only mean one thing, that the majority of new books being published sell very few copies, if any at all."
For the most of the publishing industry the figures are indeed bleak. Books are now competing with a plethora of other portable means of entertainment such as MP3 players and Pad devices capable of playing videos as well as games. People are reading less yet the e-book phenomenon has created a massive increase in the number of books being published.
"For the author, the game has shifted," continued Luddington. "Getting published is now easy, in fact it is even possible to do it oneself. The trouble is the vast majority of these books sell no copies at all."
Asked about how Mirador has managed to achieve such remarkable results in the face of huge competition not only from the old guard of publishers but also the self publishing industry, he said, "We have a great team. They are dedicated to the authors and to helping them drive sales. After all, if we don't sell books, we're just creating piles of scrap paper. We are in business to sell books and we never lose that focus."
Mirador Publishing offers a variety of opportunities to the new author. They can be contacted vial their website at http://www.miradorpublishing.com by telephone on +44 (0)845 519 7471 and by email to sarah(at)miradorpublishing(dot)com
