Europe has some of the most dynamic business programs in the world, but the changing global environment continually presents new challenges for management education.

On October 25–27, 2012, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and ESADE Business School hosted the Europe Annual Conference at ESADE in Barcelona, Spain. The conference brought together experts from around the world to uncover new strategies and techniques for business schools, explored management education trends specific to Europe, and examined the largest issues shaping business in the region.

This year, AACSB president and chief executive officer, John Fernandes presented ‘Navigating the Tsunami in Global Higher Education'—a discussion on how management educators should steer their institutions through the seismic higher education shifts with successful strategic and financial planning, the power of people, and alert risk management to sustain the institution's vitality.

AACSB and ESADE began collaborating in 2011 as schools in Europe were facing new challenges including decreasing enrollments, global competition, and the boom of for-profit schools. “The Europe Annual Conference continues to provide an exceptional opportunity for business schools to enhance their competitive edge in the marketplace and build a global network to establish alliances,” said Fernandes.

“We assign a lot of value to the conference as it highlights AACSB's and ESADE's commitment to the improvement of business education. Spaces to share insights and discussions on the short and long term challenges of institutions are pivotal for orienting and implementing the kind of high quality standards we promote,” said Alfons Sauquet, dean of management at ESADE and conference co-chair.
