Angie's List Recognized for Health Initiatives, Being Bicycle Friendly
Angie's List wins another healthy employer designation.
Indianapolis, Ind. (PRWEB) October 26, 2012
Angie's List made its first appearance on the annual League of American Bicyclists' Bicycle Friendly Businesses as a bronze medalist, the latest in a series of recognition for the Indianapolis headquartered company's Fitness for Life program.
“We're happy to earn this designation but we're planning to win at the platinum level next time,” said Angie's List Fitness Director Kelsey Taylor, fresh from the company's second consecutive advancement in the Indianapolis Corporate Challenge.
The Angie's List team won the tug-of-war contest, won two individual races, ranked 2nd in the basketball shoot-out and placed ninth of 22 overall in its division.
The Angie's List Fitness for Life program combines education, incentives and on-site facilities to encourage the 1,000+ staff to choose healthy lifestyles. The program is credited with saving the company about $2 million in projected healthcare costs in 2011.
“The benefits to a happier, healthier workforce are even better than the effect on the bottom line,” said Angie's List CEO Bill Oesterle. “When you feel good about yourself, you tend to perform better in all aspects of your life. It's great to see people biking into work and working out and just having fun throughout the day.”
Angie's List Fitness for Life includes low- or no-cost education and training to reduce chronic diseases, exercise classes, biometric screenings and health risk assessments, an on-site fitness center with a full-time personal trainer, childbirth education, smoking cessation, cooking classes and an on-site vegetable garden and orchard.
Among recent recognition for the fitness program:
- Finalist in the annual Indianapolis Business Journal Healthiest Employers (August 2012)
- Gold achievement in the American Heart Association START Fit Friendly Company (July 2012)
- Division winner in INDYCOG Bike to Work (May 2012)
