HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., Oct. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Teradata TDC, the analytic data solutions company, announced today that Sears Holdings SHLD, has refreshed its existing Teradata analytic environment with the Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse Platform 6690 (Teradata Active EDW), which leverages both SSD and HDD storage.

Sears has also added the new Teradata ADW Private Cloud with Elastic Performance on Demand for on-demand business analytics. By having flexible data-crunching capacity on the Teradata Private Cloud, users can efficiently and economically address surges in business activity, driven by such events as the holiday shopping seasons, launch of marketing campaigns, unexpected high demand, or seasonal demand swings.

"The new Teradata multi-petabyte big data platform will help Sears lead customer based innovation through integrated retail and support our membership program, Shop Your Way Rewards," said Oliver Ratzesberger, vice president of Information Analytics and Innovation at Sears Holdings. "By combining previously separated databases and data marts onto a single virtualized big data platform we eliminate the need to maintain multiple copies and data feeds, thereby reducing time to market as well as TCO."

Teradata is the first vendor to provide its customers with the optimized use of solid state drives (SSD) and hard disk drives (HDD), which is enabled by Teradata Virtual Storage™, its intelligent storage management software. The new hybrid storage-based platform meets a much broader range of customer analytic needs with expanded flexibility in the configuration and balance of SSD and HDD. The Teradata Active EDW supports robust strategic intelligence for long-range planning and reporting, and real-time operational intelligence for "front-line" employees.

Michael McIntire, CTO Information Analytics and Innovation at Sears Holdings will be speaking and leading a session at the upcoming Teradata PARTNERS User Group event, titled "Principles and Patterns in the Extreme Data & Analytics Ecosystem."

According to McIntire's abstract, his talk will explore how efficiency and agility in extreme data analytics do not fit the standard processes that data warehousing has followed for many years.  The larger and more complex the environment, the more important guiding principles and architecture are to building infrastructure which can accelerate future unknown business with faster time to market.

Also speaking at the event will be Sarang Kirpekar, divisional vice president, Information Analytics and Innovation Division at Sears Holdings.  His session, titled "An ODE (Operational Data Engine) to Operational Key Performance Indicators," will describe advanced Operational Key Performance Indicators used to enable data science and analytics as a means to optimize and manage complex workloads in a private cloud environment.  Kirpekar will also discuss how to build operational dashboards using visualization techniques to help drive adoption of these metrics throughout the enterprise.

The Teradata 2012 PARTNERS User Group Conference & Expo will be held October 21-25 at the Gaylord National Resort in Washington, D.C.  The Partners User Group is an independent non-profit corporation that exists to support education and networking opportunities for Teradata solution users.
