International Association of Fire Fighters Renews Long-time Relationship with Nationwide

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The IAFF Financial Corporation (IAFF-FC) today announced it will continue its nearly decade-long relationship with Nationwide Retirement Solutions (NRS) as its preferred retirement services provider.

“Our members understand the importance of careful financial planning,” said IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger. “That's why we are pleased to continue our relationship with Nationwide, which has helped our members prepare for retirement for nearly a decade.”

NRS is an industry leader with more than 39 years of deferred compensation experience, has one of the largest retirement sales forces in the country, and provides face-to-face education for its customers.

“NRS has proven its commitment through its willingness to meet fire fighters in the stations outside of the traditional nine-to-five work day to discuss their retirement plans,” Schaitberger said.

In addition, NRS' competitive products, including its strong fixed account crediting rate of 3.5 percent, updated recordkeeping, and support navigating changes that impact the industry helps to provide IAFF members with the retirement planning resources they need.

“Our relationship with Nationwide is strong because the values of our organizations are so closely aligned,” Schaitberger said.

The IAFF-FC's primary concern is that it works with a provider that cares about its members, and will help them prepare for retirement. Nationwide's focus on exceptional service, competitive products, education for participants and valuable tools help IAFF members save for retirement. The organizations worked together to identify and present options for funds to the FrontLine Plan. Adding the option for a real estate investment fund, a “Build America” fund which focuses on American infrastructure projects, and a natural resources fund allows IAFF members to better diversify their portfolios, which is critical in these uncertain times.

“Our nine-year history with IAFF-FC is a relationship that we value. We look forward to continuing to serve the retirement needs of our nation's fire fighters and public employees,” said Eric Stevenson, senior vice president of public sector retirement plans for Nationwide Financial. “It's an honor for us to help fire fighters plan for their financial future as they retire from a profession where they've helped so many.

Schaitberger and Stevenson agree that education is the key to a successful retirement plan. Nationwide Retirement Solutions will continue to administer the IAFF-FC's FrontLine Deferred Compensation Plan along with providing the tools and services that help their members work toward their retirement goals, including:

  • Local representatives and dedicated home office “Reps-on-Call” who are familiar with the unique guidelines of the IAFF-FC plan and can provide information and education concerning asset allocation and investing
  • The Morningstar® Retirement ManagerSM, which can help participants determine their tolerance for risk so they can make investment choices that work for them
  • Access to Nationwide's Participant Solutions Center, a team of licensed financial representatives with Nationwide Securities, LLC, an affiliate of NRS who can provide financial guidance and recommendations to plan participants and offer a fuller financial assessment that includes looking at other household assets
  • The Interactive Retirement PlannerSM and other online resources, calculators and account management tools

“Nationwide Retirement Solutions' experience in the retirement plan arena is due to their ability to work with participants to identify their unique needs and construct a plan that satisfies those needs,” Schaitberger said. “We're proud to continue this valuable relationship.”
