SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Immersion Corporation IMMR, the leader in touch feedback technology development and licensing, today announced that the just-launched Raku-Raku (easy-to-use) SMART PHONE is the first publicly available smartphone using Immersion's TouchSense® 5000 embedded control software combined with a high-fidelity piezo actuator to create HD Haptic effects. The phone, which also includes Immersion's Integrator software, is designed to create an easy-to-understand user interface targeted toward users looking for an intuitive smartphone design.

“Fujitsu understands that consumers value a mobile interface that is simple, straightforward, and above all, intuitive,” explains Dennis Sheehan, Immersion's vice president of marketing. “Immersion's HD Haptics have the fastest response time and the broadest range of sensations available in the smartphone market. As a result of the speed and range of response, this smartphone's haptic effects are crisp, precise and very realistic. Combining Immersion's HD Haptics with Fujitsu's user interface design delivers an easy-to-use user interface that consumers can confidently navigate.”

Fujitsu's Raku-Raku line is well-established in Japan, having sold over 20 million units. The customized Android interface is designed with large, easy-to-navigate icons and streamlined functionality. Immersion's TouchSense 5000 embedded software drives a piezo actuator to provide high-quality haptic effects, while Immersion's Integrator software incorporates haptics throughout the UI, including keypads and buttons. The result is crisp and realistic haptic effects consistently applied throughout the user interface. The consistency of the haptic effects allow users to quickly recognize which haptic sensations are associated with functions of the UI, such as launching an app or pressing a button. Ultimately, Immersion's HD Haptics helps create a more intuitive user experience.

“Fujitsu is dedicated to providing our customers with the most advanced technologies,” explains Ms. Kaoru Chujo, general manager &vice president of Fujitsu's Mobile Phone Division. “Immersion's HD Haptic technology complements Fujitsu's unique touch panel design to create a user experience that gives our consumers confidence and an easy-to-use interface.”

The Raku-Raku SMART PHONE is currently available through NTT DOCOMO in Japan. More information on the handset can be found at http://www.nttdocomo.com/pr/2012/001604.html.
