SAN RAMON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Chevron Products Company (a Chevron U.S.A. Inc. division) maker of the Delo® brand of technologically advanced engine oils, lubricants and coolants, today announced a major overhaul to its long-running Delo Tractor Restoration Competition. A key change in 2012 is the opening of the event to non-FFA members for the first time in the program's history. In 2012, the Delo Tractor Restoration Competition will set aside four of its 12 finalist seats for restorations not affiliated with the FFA. The remaining eight finalist spots will be reserved for FFA projects.

“By opening the competition to non-FFA members – while still keeping the FFA focus – we are able to create a more inclusive event with broader appeal,” said Channing Reeder, indirect channel marketing specialist, Chevron Products Company. “This will ensure the most compelling teen restoration projects are recognized. We hope 2012 is the beginning of a new phase in the Delo Tractor Restoration Competition history that will result in expanded interest and a more exciting event for all involved.”

Increased Awards

The award package for the 2012 event has also been updated, with the Grand Champion receiving a $10,000 prize, double the amount of previous years. Reserve Champion will now receive $5,000 and third place honors will be awarded $3,000.

Team members from the winning submission in the Best Video competition will receive a Kindle Fire®*, while runners-up will receive a $100 gift card**. The Best Video competition is open to all 2012 Delo Tractor Restoration Competition entrants – not just finalists – and is designed to engage the families, friends and the community of each entrant, allowing for the public to show support for their favorite projects.

The online video vote is a standalone competition and has no influence on the outcome of the event held in Indianapolis.

About the Delo Tractor Restoration Competition

Since 1995 the Delo Tractor Restoration Competition has rewarded the determination, mechanical skills and business savvy of high school aged tractor restoration experts from around the country. Through the restoration of an antique tractor, participants develop skills applicable to the modern business world. The skills needed for success in the program – equipment maintenance, teamwork, project management, budgeting, planning and marketing – help develop the participants into future leaders in the agriculture community.

All entrants to the Delo Tractor Restoration Competition are required to submit a workbook detailing the entire tractor restoration process, from mechanical overhauls of the engine, transmission and auxiliary and ancillary systems, to the external appearance of the tractors. The 12 finalists (8 FFA entrants and 4 open) are invited to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis to present their projects to a panel of five professional tractor restorers. Projects are graded on restoration process, results and documentation, as well as oral presentation and safety precautions.
