Greg Pavlik Named VP of Engineering at Hortonworks

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Hortonworks, a leading commercial vendor promoting the innovation, development and support of Apache Hadoop, today announced that veteran Oracle executive Greg Pavlik has joined the company as vice president of engineering.

With more than 15 years working in the distributed systems, middleware, and real-time analytics markets, Pavlik brings proven software engineering management expertise to lead Hortonworks' product development organization. As vice president of engineering, Pavlik will be responsible for ensuring the success of Hortonworks' product development and engineering activities, growing a world-class engineering team, and delivering an enterprise-ready data platform powered by Apache Hadoop.

Prior to joining Hortonworks, Pavlik spent nearly 10 years at Oracle, most recently as vice president of product development for Oracle's market-leading SOA and integration portfolio where he was responsible for building and managing the development organizations responsible for Oracle's SOA Suite, governance offerings and Application Integration Architecture (AIA) products. Pavlik also served on Oracle's External Research Board, responsible for funding academic and research partnerships, and on Oracle's Architecture Review Board, which provided global oversight for the company's technology initiatives. Prior roles involved leading technical direction for Oracle's Web services strategy and fusion middleware transaction processing infrastructure.

Before working at Oracle, Pavlik was the principal architect for the Java middleware division at Hewlett Packard. Previously, he worked at Bluestone Software on Java Application Server middleware.

Pavlik holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and a B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania.
