About A-1 Rental, Inc.:
A-1 Rental is a family owned business that opened in May of 1957 by Adrian Onderdonk and his wife Ann.

Adrian at that time worked for Hoover Ball and Bearing in Ann Arbor but had hopes of starting his own business. He and his father in law David Saxton had discussed this on many occasions and together they agreed that tool rental as a business was a relatively new concept and worth looking into. Not long after however David passed away and Adrian was even more determined to start and open his own business. With the purchase of a few lawn mowers a couple of wheel barrows and roll away beds he opened the store at 2285 W. Liberty where it is still located today.

It was not an instant success and working long hours 7 days a week was becoming stressful on a young man with a growing family. Persistence prevailed as before long customers were calling with requests for other types of equipment. Soon he was adding to his inventory tables, chairs, tents and other party related items and A-1 Rental, Inc. became a full service rental store.
Adrian and Ann's three children, John Onderdonk, Robert Onderdonk and Linda Harvey grew up working alongside their parents in the store and would eventually purchase the business from their parents upon their retirement in 2002.

Today the business also rents moving trucks for local moves. The Party and Special Events Department has grown into its own full service status in addition to the tables, chairs and tents their inventory has grown to include linens, china, flatware, disposable tableware and much more. A lot of their purchasing is dictated by customers requests, if they don't have it they will try to get it. Delivery and pick up service is available in the Ann Arbor and surrounding areas and rates are based on location.

Service with a smile is mandatory for all A-1 Rental employees most of which have been with the company for 15 plus years. A pleasant experience for all customers is what they strive for.
