KANSAS CITY, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

UMB Financial Corporation UMBF is pleased to announce that it has been recognized for superior performance by KBW (Keefe, Bruyette & Woods), a full-service investment bank widely recognized as a leading authority in the banking industry. UMB is one of 45 banking institutions with a ten-year record that met the KBW criteria for inclusion on its 2011 “Bank Honor Roll.”

“I am extremely proud of UMB's sound financial performance over the past decade and beyond,” said UMB Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mariner Kemper. “We are proud to be a part of the KBW Bank Honor Roll, as it is added testament to the consistent performance of our institution.”

Nearly 400 publicly traded banking institutions with more than $500 million in total assets were screened. The 45 companies that were included in the KBW Bank Honor Roll met the following requirements:

  • No annual loss reported in net income per share before extraordinary items over the past 10 years;
  • 2011 annual reported net income per share before extraordinary items equal to or greater than peak net income per share over the past 10 years;
  • Consecutive increases in net income per share before extraordinary items since 2009

According to KBW, “Honor Roll” banks significantly outperformed both the KBW Bank Index's (BKX) and KBW Regional Banking Index's (KRX) five-year compound annual growth rates (CAGR) of -19.6 percent and -13.2 percent, respectively. The KBW Honor Roll banks also meaningfully outperformed the S&P 500's (SPX) CAGR of -2.4 percent over the equivalent time period.
