Tokyo, Mar 14, 2012 - (JCN Newswire) - Fuji Television Network Inc. and Rovio Entertainment Ltd., the company that developed the popular online game Angry Birds, are pleased to announce the official partner website "Angry Birds x Fuji TV" ( http://fujitv.angrybirds.com/ ) and a new Japanese episode of Angry Birds named "Sakura Ninja".

Complementing the worldwide Rovio release of the new Japan-themed Angry Birds episode "Cherry Blossom", "Sakura Ninja" features Laugh-kun, the little blue dog and mascot of Fuji TV, various buildings including those of Fuji TV, and Angry Birds dressed like Ninja and Shogun, who appear in the game for the first time in the world.

Angry Birds was released in December 2009 with phenomenal success, achieving more than 700 million downloads as of March 8, 2012. Angry Birds has also achieved multi-media success through the sales of merchandise and the release of short animations.

In addition to the Angry Birds web game, Fuji TV and Rovio will explore a wide range of future businesses by utilizing the strengths of both companies, and new projects will be announced on the website on a timely basis. Advertising and sales of the browser version of Angry Birds will be managed by MCN Japan, Inc., the marketing agent for Rovio in Japan.

"In the game Angry Birds, Laugh-kun and new Angry Birds characters will all appear including iconic symbols of Japanese culture such as ninja, judo, and sumo," says Ryo Ota, Corporate Officer & Creative Business Department Manager, Fuji TV. "We believe that this new approach has great significance, and we have high expectations for the project. I hope that this partnership provides the opportunity to accumulate valuable expertise that will contribute to the global expansion of Fuji TV, which plans a larger scale development of the game business in the future."

"Japan is a mecca for video games and a center of pop culture. Rovio is always looking for ways to enhance its company presence in important markets," said Henri Holm, Rovio Senior Vice President. "Rovio has so far had discussions with various companies in Japan, and we decided on a partnership with Fuji TV, one of the leading companies in Japan's entertainment industry, as we believed that we could make great advances with Angry Birds in Japan through this partnership.
