NCKU Academia-Industry Collaboration Funding Hits the New High

The amount of academia-industry collaboration funding of the Research and Service Headquarters (RSH) at Tainan-based National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in 2011 grew by 15%, with a total of NT$10 billion, which hit the new high of NCKU, and of Taiwan in terms of the number of faculty and the size of the school.
According to a report released by Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation council of Taiwan in 2010, the average output value of per faculty of NCKU had exceeded expectations to rank the first in Taiwan when taking into account of the number of teachers and the school size.
“Universities must transform research into capacity to achieve substantial achievements,” said President Hwung-Hweng Hwung of NCKU. “NCKU has proved itself to be the forerunner of industry-academia collaborations in Taiwan, as it achieved a breakthrough in the school budget and a higher level of technology transfer.”
President Hwung remarked, NCKU Research and Services Headquarters, developed from 5 research units in 1996 to 71 research units in 2012, has served as an efficient platform to bridge the university's research and development with industry.
The research momentum of NCKU has received recognition and favor of Taiwan's industry such as Chimei Innolux Cooperation, Delta Electronics In., offering annual research fund to benefit the academia and the industry as well, president Hwung noted.
