Chinese Appetite for Gold Spurs GTSO's African Mining Plans

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

With demand in China for gold and gold-related investments growing at an explosive pace, Green Technology Solutions Inc. (OTCBB: GTSO) continues to work feverishly to begin exploration and development of new gold resources in West Africa, South America and elsewhere.

“It's only been in the last few years that China has relaxed its rules about citizens buying and owning gold,” said GTSO CEO Paul Watson. “Throughout history, gold has been a far more popular investment option in Asia than in the West, and as more and more Chinese get wealthy, gold stands out as a sound investment and the ultimate hedge against inflation.”

Last month, the World Gold Council reported that strong demand in investment and jewelry will drive China's total gold demand to 750 tons this year. Demand for gold bars and coins in the Asian superpower expanded by 24 percent from last year to 60.2 tons in the third quarter of 2011. Demand for gold jewelry rose by 13 percent. Powerful demand from China has helped raise the price of gold to new record highs this year, continuing the yellow metal's unprecedented decade-plus bull run.

“Gold is becoming the new global currency,” Watson said. “Unlike dollars, of course, you can't simply print more gold whenever you'd like. To cover demand, you've got to dig it out of the ground. With the price of gold rising seemingly every day, that's exactly what we intend to do in Africa.”

Currently, GTSO is finalizing a strategic partnership with Chery Minerals LLC to develop new gold resources in the African nations of Mali, Burkina Faso and Ghana. Thanks to its low labor costs and underdeveloped resources, Africa is seen by many as the next hub of global gold production. GTSO plans to secure its position in the region early in order to capitalize on the massive industry growth in store there.

“Demand for gold from investors in China, India and elsewhere around the globe shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon,” Watson said. “The high price of gold has made mining and development more profitable than ever before. We expect to finalize our partnership with Chery Minerals and begin activities in Africa as soon as possible as well as explore other opportunities in South America, Alaska and parts of Asia.”

GTSO plans to service a fast-growing global appetite for rare earth and precious metals to compete in an exciting sector that includes Newmont Mining Corp. (NYSE: NEM), AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (NYSE: AU), Gold Fields Ltd. (NYSE: GFI) and Barrick Gold Corp. (NYSE: ABX).
