Death of an Inmate at the Regional Reception Centre

SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 23, 2011) - On September 22, 2011, Real Cote, an inmate at the Regional Reception Centre, a multi-level federal penitentiary in Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, died of apparent natural causes. He was found unconscious in his cell at approximately 6:00 a.m. Institutional staff started CPR and continued to do so until the paramedics took over. The inmate was taken to the Cite de la sante medical facility.
At the time of his death, Cote, 56, was serving a third sentence of 2 years 8 months for violent offences.His current sentence began September 7, 2011.Next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
