Officers and Delegates Call For Protection of Collective Bargaining at One of Nation's Largest Union Conventions

The United Association, one of the largest building trades unions in North America, will call for protection of the collective bargaining process at its convention in Las Vegas, August 8-12.

(PRWEB) August 07, 2011

Delegates to one of the largest union conventions in North America will hear resolutions calling for support of workers fighting to protect the integrity of the collective bargaining process, and that, “anti-union politicians are doing the bidding of…corporations and special interest groups by initiating legislation aimed at taking away collective bargaining rights,” of public and private sector workers.

The United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters, Sprinklerfitters, Welders and HVACR Technicians (UA) is meeting in Las Vegas, August 8-12, to address this issue and others of similar significance. A strongly worded resolution notes that workers from every sector of the economy have banded together in “a moving show of solidarity” in support of the right to bargain, as well as the right to fair wages, benefits and working conditions that allow workers to provide for their families.

Similar resolutions calling for action across the board on issues of importance to working families will be addressed at the convention, which will be held at the Paris Hotel and Convention Center in Las Vegas. Delegates will hear from numerous speakers, including political strategist James Carville, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, CNN commentator Donna Brazile, and Obama Campaign Manager Jim Messina, as well as members of Congress, governors and industry figures.

The United Association was founded in 1889 and is a multi-craft union. UA members are engaged in the installation, fabrication and maintenance of all piping systems. The UA serves as a collective voice for approximately 347,000 members in more than 300 individual local unions across the U.S. and Canada. There are thousands of employers and contactor groups who employ UA members throughout North America.
