MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

SAGE, the leader in dynamic window glass, is continuing to build momentum and meet growing demand for its energy-efficient SageGlass®. The company has hired two senior executives, unveiled a new corporate brand identity, and is making significant strides on its new manufacturing plant construction.

SAGE is hiring aggressively in anticipation of bringing a total of 160 new green collar jobs to Minnesota by 2012.

Andrew J. Hulse is SAGE's new vice president of business development and sales, responsible for field operations and inside sales. He comes to SAGE from Honeywell Aerospace, where he served as vice president of business development in the defense and space business. Previously he spent 12 years in various executive positions in general management and marketing within Honeywell's aerospace and home and building control divisions. Prior to Honeywell, he served for a decade as a naval flight officer in both operational and instructional roles. Hulse earned a bachelor's degree in robotic engineering from Purdue University and a master's degree in engineering systems management from St. Mary's University in Texas.

Derek Malmquist is the new vice president of marketing for SAGE, responsible for marketing strategy, programs and lead generation. Malmquist brings extensive experience launching products and growth initiatives at leading consumer and business-to-business companies. Malmquist began his career as an advertising executive, spent a decade in marketing at The Clorox Company, and held executive positions at Looksmart.com, Marshall Field's/Target Corp. and Ecolab. He later became senior vice president of marketing at Oceanaire Restaurants, an upscale nationwide chain, and senior director of marketing at Rasmussen College. He earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard University and a master's degree in marketing and general management from the Harvard Business School.

SAGE is currently interviewing and hiring additional employees to handle full-capacity production in its existing facility and preparation for next year's growth.

A bright new design

Today SAGE unveiled a new golden sunburst logo [www.sage-ec.com] to better express the evolving company's personality. “Although we're a technology company and pioneering materials science, our overarching mission is harnessing daylight's power to make people in buildings happier, healthier and more productive,” said John Van Dine, SAGE founder and CEO. “That includes saving energy, and consequently the planet, which makes everyone smile.”

“As the new logo suggests, SAGE is always emitting a burst of positive energy in preparation for a new era in energy-saving buildings,” said Van Dine. “This is an exciting time for us, for the architectural community and the green economy.”

Progress on the new manufacturing plant

SAGE also announced today that the 324,000-square-foot building that will house its new high-volume manufacturing facility will be substantially complete before the end of the year. The next step will be installation of the high-volume manufacturing process equipment. Completion of the plant is expected by spring 2012 with startup occurring later that year.

When complete, the facility will be the world's largest and most advanced dynamic glass manufacturing plant, able to produce dynamic glass in high volumes and in large commercial architectural sizes at an affordable cost. SAGE is seeking LEED Silver accreditation for the facility.

Partnership progress

Meanwhile, SAGE is advancing its partnership with Saint-Gobain, one of the world's largest glass and construction material manufacturers. The two companies are collaborating closely to identify sales opportunities around the world. Saint-Gobain last fall made an $80 million strategic investment in SAGE to make dynamic glass an affordable mass-market product.

All of this news comes on the heels of SAGE's selection as a 2011 New Energy Pioneer by Bloomberg New Energy. The Bloomberg New Energy Finance Pioneers program spotlights companies from across the world making significant gains in the field of clean technology and innovation. A panel of industry experts, led by Bloomberg New Energy Finance technology specialists, chose the honorees by assessing them against three criteria: potential scale, innovation and momentum.
