Abbott Labs TriCor Mixed With Simvastatin Failed To Reduce Risks For Diabetics (ABT)

3/14/2010- Abbot Laboratories' (NYSE: ABT) cholesterol drug TriCor added with another cholesterol pill failed to cut the risk of heart attacks, strokes and cardiac deaths in diabetics, according to a Bloomberg report, which cited results from a study.

In the study, there was no significant reduction in heart events among patients taking the generic drug simvastatin and TriCor compared with those taking simvastatin alone.

JP Morgan Chase analyst Michael Weinstein said in a research report, "While there is certainly some headline risk around the data release, we expect only a modest impact on Abbott's business. We expect physicians to largely look through a negative result."
