NCKU Prof. Jow-Lay Huang Elected World Academy of Ceramics Academician

Prof. Jow-Lay Huang of Department of Materials Science and Engineering in National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, is elected as the Academician of the World Academy of Ceramics (WAC). The 14 scholars elected as academicians come from United States, Japan, Germany, China, Korea, etc. Prof. Jow-Lay Huang is the first and only professor elected in Taiwan.
World Academy of Ceramics was established in 1987 to promote progress in the field of ceramics and to foster better understanding of its impact. Academicians elected are internationally renowned scholars who have significant contributions and achievements in the academic research field of ceramics. The academician title is one of the top honors given by the World Academy of Ceramics. The total number of international academicians of this academy is limited to 200, as specified in the regulations.
The World Academy of Ceramics is an important international academic organization. It has huge influence on the development and education of material-related cultural, technological, industrial, historic and artistic fields. The academy does only act as a platform for international academic exchange and cooperation; it also plays an important role in promoting ceramics development and cultivating professional talents.
Dr. Jow-Lay Huang is currently the Distinguished Professor of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering in National Cheng Kung University as well as the President of Taiwan Association for Coatings and Thin Film Technology (TACT). He graduated from Department of Materials Science and Engineering in National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, and obtained doctoral degree in University of Utah, United States. He has published over 300 papers and patents, served as guest editor of two international academic journals and delivered speeches in many World Academy of Ceramics conferences.
Prof. Jow-Lay Huang will be introduced in the opening ceremony of CIMTEC 2010 (International Conferences on Modern Materials and Technologies) to be held in June, in Tuscany, Italy.
