Columbus Community Hospital Hires John Russell as CEO

After conducting a nationwide executive search led by healthcare leadership solutions firm B. E. Smith, Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Wis., has hired John Russell to fill the role of CEO. A seasoned healthcare executive with nearly 20 years of senior leadership success, Russell will assume his new duties at CCH on May 3, 2011.

After conducting a nationwide executive search led by healthcare leadership solutions firm B. E. Smith, Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Wis., has hired John Russell to fill the role of CEO. A seasoned healthcare executive with nearly 20 years of senior leadership success, Russell will assume his new duties at CCH on May 3, 2011.

“CCH needed a chief executive officer with proven success in partnering with medical staff to ensure quality care and the optimal patient experience. John has the ideal track record and skill set to lead the achievement of the organization's operational and strategic goals,” said Mark Madden, vice president of executive search for B. E. Smith, who led a nationwide CEO search in partnership with the CCH board of directors.

Prior to joining CCH, Russell served as administrator with Boscobel Area Health Care in Boscobel, Wis., where he had executive leadership responsibility for a critical access hospital and three family practice clinics. His career has included the CFO post at Blackhawk Healthcare LLC in Austin, Texas, as well as serving as an executive consultant to healthcare organizations across the country. He is a nationally known speaker on operations and reimbursement-related topics. Russell completed his bachelor's degree in business administration at the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, Wis.

Russell will provide immediate leadership to several ongoing growth initiatives at CCH, including a current reconstruction project moving the obstetrics area from the second floor to the third floor. This project represents phase three of a larger master facility plan to be implemented in five phases.
