BACKGROUND: Former Bolingbrook (Ill.) Police Sgt. Drew Peterson is accused of drowning his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in March 2004. Savio was found dead in a bathtub. At the time of her death, the state police ruled it accidental. When Peterson's next wife, Stacy Peterson, vanished in October 2007, authorities exhumed Savio's body and later ruled the death a homicide.
State police suspect Stacy may also have been killed and list Peterson as their sole suspect in her "potential homicide." Peterson has not been arrested in connection with her disappearance. Peterson denies any involvement in either case.
