Skip the Realtor--Sell it Yourself

The housing market is still quite depleted, as reflected in a disappointing drop in the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) caused by declining consumer confidence from both buyers and sellers. In order to save money and hopefully cut losses, many home owners are avoiding realtors and are taking matters into their own hands. Instead of losing thousands of dollars (approximately 6% of the total sell on average per home) to realtors, more and more homeowners are electing to pocket the cash and move along--at least that is the current advice being spread around.

This avoidance of the middle man can also save buyers extra fees that would be tacked on in order to foot the cost of hiring a realtor. Realtor website Forsalebyowner.com instructs home owners that selling their home without a realtor is not as intimidating as it may sound. Some methods for selling your house yourself include learning about the surrounding market, newspaper ads, and listing services. In a weak buyers market, any help for the battered home owners is welcome.
