WALL, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

For the second consecutive year, New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) ranked highest in the eastern United States among large utilities, according to the J.D. Power 2016 Gas Residential Customer Satisfaction StudySM. The annual study measures residential customer satisfaction with natural gas utility companies across the six categories of safety and reliability, billing and payment, price, corporate citizenship, communications and customer service.

"Meeting the needs of our customers is at the core of everything we do, and to have our efforts recognized is a tremendous honor," said Laurence M. Downes, chairman and CEO of New Jersey Natural Gas. Since J.D. Power began measuring customer satisfaction among natural gas utilities in 2002, New Jersey Natural Gas was recognized for its commitment to customer satisfaction 7 times.

"Underscoring our pledge to deliver safe, reliable service, we also ranked eighth in the nation and highest in the state for safety and reliability on this year's study. These accomplishments are a credit to our employees and a reflection of their dedication and commitment that makes us the company we are today," Downes continued.

NJNG ranked highest in overall customer satisfaction among large natural gas utilities in the east region that serve 400,000 customers or more. The company's overall score of 723 was well above the regional average of 697. Additionally, NJNG ranked highest in the safety and reliability, billing and payment as well as customer service categories.

The 2016 Gas Residential Customer Satisfaction Study measures satisfaction among residential customers of 82 large and midsize U.S. natural gas utility companies. These results are based on responses from nearly 63,000 online interviews between September 2015 and July 2016.
