DUBLIN, Ohio, Aug. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- They've spent four years as student-athletes giving it their all, serving as role models both on the field and in the classroom. They've become leaders in the community and an inspiration to their peers. They only know one way to work: as hard as they can.

No one said hard work was easy, but these students are guided by a tenacious spirit. The Wendy's® High School Heisman® Scholarship recognizes their dedication to rising to the challenge and leading by example and rewards them for their commitment. And applying is a whole lot easier than all the work they had to put in to be considered.

Students of the graduating class of 2017 have until October 3 to complete the application by visiting www.WendysHighSchoolHeisman.com. The first 1,000 students to successfully submit an application will receive a $10 Wendy's gift card. More than 5,000 of the best high school seniors will be recognized for their accomplishments with five phases of awards, ranging from School Winners to State Winners to National Finalists.

Wendy's High School Heisman Winners are Game Changers
Created by Wendy's founder Dave Thomas in 1994, the Wendy's® High School Heisman® has partnered with the Heisman Memorial Trophy to honor more than 600,000 of the nation's most esteemed high school seniors who have been a part of the program for the past 22 years. Since its inception, Wendy's High School Heisman Award has awarded 252 National Finalists and 44 National Winners.

This thriving partnership credits its success to a shared set of common values. Both Wendy's and the Heisman Memorial Trophy believe that going above and beyond is the benchmark by which all successful people operate. Together, they aim to honor students who believe they can be better than just good enough.

Last year's National Winners were Taylor Campos of Lemont, IL, who excelled as a cross-country and track and field runner, and Zach Hughes of Town and Country, MO, who was a Varsity Letter Winner in football, track and field, and basketball. They, like all the other student applicants, succeeded in their academic pursuits and have pursued amateur and professional athletics at the highest levels, including national collegiate championships, U.S. World Championships and U.S. Olympic trials.
