SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

InvenSense, Inc. INVN, a leading provider of MEMS sensor platforms, today announced that it has been ranked as a leader in the "Q1 2016 Sensors for Mobile Devices Database" by IHS, Inc. According to the quarterly published IHS Mobile Devices Database report, InvenSense was the #1 Motion Sensor supplier, based on revenue (gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometers, and combo sensors) across the handset segment, the largest market segment for sensors. The quarterly database analyzed more than 20 sensor manufacturers.

"The InvenSense team set a goal to become the #1 supplier of motion sensors in the mobile market segment and we achieved this goal," said Behrooz Abdi, CEO and President, InvenSense, Inc. "This achievement has allowed us to scale our world class research and development (R&D) and diversify beyond mobile with new sensors, and continues our progress towards becoming a leading sensor solution company. InvenSense solutions combine high performance MEMS sensors, with software and algorithms in creating smart sensor chips for a myriad of mobile and IoT applications."

"InvenSense has been successful in diversifying its product portfolio and customer base," said Jérémie Bouchaud, Senior Principal Analyst, MEMS & Sensors, IHS. "After success with its 2-axis gyroscope in gaming, InvenSense quickly progressed to inertial measurement units (IMU) and managed to expand its 6-axis offer into smartphones and tablets. InvenSense has subsequently begun to serve new growth areas like wearables and drones with 6-axis and 9-axis IMUs."

IHS reported that InvenSense has increased its market share from 22.5% in 2014 to 30% in 2015. Moreover, InvenSense dominates the supply of combo motion sensors, with 57% market share for mobile devices.
