BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Constellation today announced new areas of focus for its E2 Energy to EducateSM grants program. The new areas of focus will emphasize innovation and help tomorrow's energy leaders enhance their understanding of science and technology with tomorrow's energy challenges in mind. The program, which awards grants of up to $25,000 to programs for grades 6-12 and $50,000 to colleges and universities, has provided more than $2.2 million in funding and reached more than 100,000 students since its inception in 2010.

"Constellation is pleased to celebrate the success of our E2 Energy to Educate grants program by introducing updated themes that will help students gain a better understanding of the energy challenges facing their generation," said Mike Smith vice president, Exelon Generation, Innovation and Strategy Development. "Constellation, and our parent company, Exelon, are known for our commitment to innovation, so it's only fitting that one of our flagship community outreach programs promotes innovation among our industry's future leaders."

Constellation is currently accepting proposals for hands-on projects which engage 100 or more students in grades 6-12 and college. Project proposals must align with Constellation's new innovation-oriented themes:

  • Energy in Transportation: What will the future of transportation look like? From electrification to compressed natural gas, new technologies are fueling us into the future.
  • Backyard Generation: Could your next home improvement project be generating your own energy? More and more, decentralized energy generation is improving efficiency and resilience.
  • Zero Waste: What if we could harness energy that would otherwise be wasted? The recycling movement is catching on in energy thanks to innovative technologies.

Previous grantees have designed and built a cost-effective, energy efficient, sustainable home, implemented green design labs in New York City schools, installed solar panels, constructed fuel cells, and explored electric vehicle technology. For the complete list of winning projects visit E2 Energy to Educate Grants.

Grant recipients are announced each year during American Education Week. To learn more about the program visit the Community Outreach section of www.constellation.com.
