LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized CBRE Group, Inc. CBG with a 2016 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award for its continued leadership in protecting our environment through superior energy efficiency achievements. This marks the ninth consecutive year that CBRE has been recognized for ENERGY STAR performance.

Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped prevent a total of more than 2.4 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2014 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners provided more than $11 billion in societal benefits due to reducing damages from climate change.

"Driving sustainable real estate practices is a fundamental practice of our company," said David Pogue, CBRE's Global Director of Corporate Responsibility. "Our continued partnership with ENERGY STAR underscores how our commitment to environmental sustainability makes an impact on the real estate market and our clients."

"By continued collaboration with ENERGY STAR, CBRE is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do-their-part to reduce our nation's greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate climate change," said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. "I'm proud to recognize CBRE with the highest form of ENERGY STAR recognition, as the winner of the 2016 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award. CBRE demonstrates a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations."

CBRE assists owners and occupiers with energy efficiency programs at properties it manages around the world. Since CBRE first developed its sustainability program in 2006, ENERGY STAR has remained the operational framework for advancing energy efficiency practices in the Company's managed portfolio.

These efforts produced strong results in 2015:

  • Since 2007, CBRE has successfully improved its average ENERGY STAR score, achieving a cumulative increase of 10% and was in the top quartile of performance in 2015;
  • CBRE experienced a 2.5% reduction in average normalized site energy intensity during 2015, including a savings of 15,980 metric tons of CO2, the equivalent of reducing 38,047,143 passenger vehicle miles driven in an entire year;
  • CBRE has 1,619 buildings representing more than 262 million square feet participating in the program, significantly more than from any other third-party management firm;
  • CBRE's 346 ENERGY STAR buildings under management represent nearly 4% of the total U.S. office buildings labeled.

CBRE offers a wide range of sustainability initiatives under its Environmental Sustainability program, which includes global commitments in 11 key areas of environmentally sound performance, in the categories of resource management, occupancy, communications and training, public policy and procurement. The program provides best practices and initiatives that strengthen CBRE's own environmental commitment, reflect the best environmental practices in our clients' properties, and provide vital training and education to CBRE professionals.
