TORONTO, Feb. 25, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Capital One® Race for Kids™ is an urban adventure race offering a chance to return to the best adventures of childhood, all while raising funds for kids! This year's Race is scheduled to take place in 31 locations across Canada, with events happening on each of the following Saturdays: May 28, June 4, and June 11.

Teams of four will complete 10 Checkpoints in a race to the finish. Checkpoints are designed to focus the mind and challenge the body in fun and zany ways.

All funds raised by team entries support programming at local Boys and Girls Clubs, improving the lives of thousands of children and youth who rely on Boys and Girls Clubs programs and services every year. Boys and Girls Clubs serve over 210,000 children and youth at 650 locations across the country.

Young people not only serve as the foundation for the future but are firmly part of the present generation of global citizens: living, contributing, exploring, experiencing and learning. It is essential that every effort is made to ensure that all young people, regardless of their family's structure or financial status, have the resources and support they need to reach their full potential.

"I'm thrilled that Capital One Race for Kids™ will once again be supporting Boys and Girls Clubs," says Owen Charters, President and CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. "We are looking forward to another successful year with all of our incredible racers, volunteers, local donors across Canada, and of course, our national sponsors—Capital One Canada and WestJet."

"After four years, the Capital One Race for Kids™ has raised more than 3.8 million dollars for Boys and Girls Clubs, and we're looking forward to another great year," said Nathalie Clark, Vice President, Capital One Canada. "The event is a wonderful opportunity for Canadians from coast to coast to have fun while also supporting important programs that empower children and youth in their local community."

About Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada

Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada is dedicated to supporting and encouraging children and youth as they grow and develop. We are a national charity serving 96 member Clubs that provide services to 210,000 young people in 650 locations across Canada. Our trained staff and volunteers listen to the opinions and ideas of children and youth, applaud their accomplishments, lend support during their struggles and provide ways for them to explore their interests and talents. With this encouragement, young people develop the confidence and sense of belonging that helps them succeed in school, form positive relationships and mature into responsible, caring adults. For 115 years, we have welcomed children, youth and their families into Clubs that reflect the diversity of Canada in small and large cities, and rural and Aboriginal communities.
