BATON ROUGE, La., Jan. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* is helping Louisiana modernize communications and deliver important services to its citizens.

AT&T is delivering a communications service as part of an agreement with the State of Louisiana Office of Technology Services. The State will use AT&T's Switched Ethernet, an ultra-fast networking technology. It prioritizes data packets. It lets the State plan, provision and scale its network usage. And it supports a variety of important services, including:

  • Telehealth to help deliver healthcare to citizens in remote rural areas
  • Electronic health records
  • Online student testing
  • e-filing of State forms
  • Video streaming of State legislative meetings
  • Online training for State employees and constituents
  • Electronic licensing, registration, and renewals
  • More effective law enforcement

AT&T's Switched Ethernet solution for the State of Louisiana is the "Best Government Solution," according to the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF).  AT&T Switched Ethernet also won "Best Healthcare Provider" and "Best Service Innovation" from MEF.

"AT&T Switched Ethernet helps us deliver important services to our citizens from our urban centers to our most rural areas," said Richard Howze, chief information officer, State of Louisiana. "It's highly-flexible, modern and innovative. It can help us close the Internet gap across Louisiana and cut costs."

"Our services help Louisiana use voice, data, video and mobility to serve its citizens in new and innovative ways," said John Irwin, senior vice president, AT&T Global Business - Government, Education, and Healthcare Solutions.

AT&T's service is highly secure, reliable, and flexible. It is less susceptible to service interruptions caused by events like hurricanes, which are common to the region.

"Our solution lays the groundwork for IP-based video and voice services across Louisiana," said Sonia Perez, president, AT&T Louisiana. "It complements our expansion of broadband services statewide."
