Extreme's wireless and analytics solutions to deliver wide-scale Wi-Fi across college's campus

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. EXTR today announced that Utica College in New York selected Extreme's software-driven wired, wireless and analytics solutions to power its campus network. Utica partnered with Extreme to better leverage technology such as e-Learning, cloud migration, wired and wireless, scalability and consolidation to enhance student learning, boost staff productivity, lower the cost of education and improve instruction and retention rates.

With Extreme's solutions, Utica College implemented a wide-scale wired and wireless solution that touches virtually every aspect of campus life, further connecting students with teachers and each other, while also connecting the school's main campus with its satellite locations.

Key Facts

  • Extreme partnered with GSS Infotech to implement both wired and wireless 802.11ac, enabling school-wide Wi-Fi with secure access for students, faculty and administration.
  • By using ExtremeWireless, Utica College is able to increase visibility into its application use across the network, improving the experience of students and faculty while optimizing application performance for best-in-class reliability.
  • The entire network will be managed through the ExtremeControl management platform to provide an integrated management suite and increased visibility of the campus-wide wired and wireless network.
  • Extreme delivered a single, easy-to-use, easy-to-maintain network that now supports over 4,000 network users, 50+ network apps and a 128-acre campus including three remote locations.

Executive Perspectives

Vijay Sonty, CIO, Utica College
"With the help of Extreme, we've reduced the complexity of our network and made it easier for people to access and use our systems. The gains in efficiency and simplicity alone have had true bottom line results. Now, a single network engineer can easily maintain a network that serves 4,000 users, where the customary ratio is one engineer to 200 users. Overall, Extreme built a robust network at a savings of close to $1 million over their competitors – and they did it in less than half the time. Extreme has been a true partner every step of the way."

Dan Dulac, Vice President of Solutions, Extreme Networks
"Extreme strives to deliver solutions that streamline the way IT teams interact with the network. In our work with Utica College, we were challenged to bring disparate infrastructure elements together and create an integrated system that could easily be monitored through a single pane of glass. Utica College is a vibrant, active community and we're proud that our software-driven solutions were able to empower students and faculty to connect through reliable Wi-Fi and innovative technology in and outside of the classroom."
