Need an Escape From the Cold? Spirit Airlines Begins New Nonstop Service Between Baltimore/Washington and Orlando

MIRAMAR, Fla., Jan. 08, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Is the winter chill already getting you down? Ditch that ice scraper and grab your sunscreen! Spirit Airlines begins new daily nonstop service to and from the Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) and the Orlando International Airport (MCO) this week. Flying to the Sunshine State with more cash left in your pocket for theme parks and souvenirs just got a lot easier, so toss your snow boots for your flip-flops and hop on board.

In celebration of Spirit's inaugural flight on Thursday, the airline awarded two roundtrip tickets and three hotel nights at one of Orlando's premier resorts to Connie Yeh, the winner of its first Spirit-aneous Getaway. With her bags packed, Yeh joined dozens of other contestants at BWI to enter the instant vacation sweepstakes just hours before the first Orlando-bound flight took off. For those who couldn't make it to the airport, Spirit also held an online contest, giving away two roundtrip ticket vouchers from BWI to MCO.

In addition to today's new service, Spirit Airlines will begin twice-daily nonstop service between BWI and the Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), and once-daily service to/from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), starting April 21, 2016. With these additions, Spirit will operate nonstop service from Baltimore/Washington to 12 cities, including Atlanta, Boston (starting 4/21/2016), Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit (4/21/2016), Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Myrtle Beach, and Orlando.
