BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Iron Mountain Incorporated ®, the storage and information company, today announced a charitable partnership with The Sports Museum, a non-profit educational institution housed in Boston's TD Garden that celebrates New England's rich sports history. Through its Living Legacy Initiative, Iron Mountain will provide financial support and in-kind services to help the Sports Museum preserve and protect its collection of memorabilia and further its educational mission.

With nine professional sports championships since 2001, as well as several collegiate titles, New England is a region bursting with history and home to some of the greatest athletes and coaches in sports. Founded in 1977, The Sports Museum honors the region's leading athletes, coaches and participants by preserving and showcasing a rich sports heritage with visuals and exhibits of uniforms, vintage field gear, publications, and other miscellaneous items such as newspaper clippings, photo scrap books and film. Preserving their complete collection of items – valued at almost $7 million – was becoming difficult for the Sports Museum as their offsite storage location was not climate controlled and had fallen into disrepair. This placed these one-of-a-kind items in danger of falling victim to the natural decaying forces of time and environment.

Seeking a solution for their storage challenge, the Sports Museum asked Iron Mountain to help find a safe home within its network of climate-controlled storage facilities for this priceless collection. Iron Mountain worked with the Museum to understand their storage and security needs, as well as the plans for current and future exhibits, to come up with a custom solution that ensures these items will remain safe and protected for generations of fans to enjoy.

"We're lucky to live in a region that has such a rich athletic tradition, with our championship sports teams to Olympic athletes offering examples of commitment and integrity both on and off the field," said Rusty Sullivan, executive director of The Sports Museum. "Our collection of memorabilia helps tell the story of these athletes, coaches and participants and the unique brand of teamwork, determination, responsibility, courage, fairness, and other qualities of character that make Boston ‘The Greatest Sports City in America.' Iron Mountain's support will help us continue protect this collection and further our mission of using this distinctly rich heritage to help build character in the fans of today and tomorrow kids so that they can stand strong in the face of drugs, violence, and other dangers."

Iron Mountain's Living Legacy Initiative supports museums and other nonprofit institutions that share the company's philanthropic mission of protecting and providing access to cultural and heritage treasures. Drawing on Iron Mountain's history of more than 60 years protecting and preserving critical business information, data and priceless items, the Living Legacy Initiative provides those non-profit partners with a combination of financial grants, in-kind services and information management expertise.
