AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Freescale Semiconductor's FSL advanced S32V automotive vision processor stole the show last week at ARM TechCon 2015, taking home three ARM® Innovation Challenge awards including "Best in Show."

Entries were judged for exceptional innovation on the ARM architecture with features that help advance user productivity or product functionality. Among the most prestigious honors in the embedded industry, the ARM Innovation Challenge rewards the most leading-edge ARM-based products developed between October 1, 2014 and October 1, 2015 by ARM TechCon exhibitors across all applications and worldwide regions.

The only company to receive multiple awards for this year's Challenge, Freescale has an impressive track record of developing forward-looking embedded processing solutions leveraging ARM technology, including high performance multicore processors, low-power wireless microcontrollers and popular applications processors deployed in countless automotive and consumer applications.

"The S32V is a bridge from today's ‘assist' era towards the fully autonomous, crash-less vehicles of tomorrow," said Matt Johnson, vice president and general manager of Automotive MCUs for Freescale. "Our partnership with ARM has enabled the success of this new technology, as well as so many others in the Freescale portfolio. We look forward to our continued collaboration to take ARM processing technologies to new heights."

Freescale's S32V vision microprocessor launched earlier this year as the first automotive vision system-on-chip (SoC) with the requisite reliability, safety and security measures to automate and ‘co-pilot' a self-aware car. Leveraging a host of automotive-grade technologies, the S32V takes the industry beyond the current, convenience-centric ‘assist' model and toward the day where cars can capture and process data, and actually share control with drivers in critical situations.

Freescale collaborated with Neusoft Corporation in order to deliver advanced, real-time object recognition algorithms that seamlessly detect partial objects, allowing the S32V to interpret and distinguish between pedestrians and road hazards.
