SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

8x8, Inc. EGHT, a provider of cloud-based unified communications and contact center services, today announced that it has been awarded a new patent related to its communication technologies. On June 9, 2015, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued United States Patent number 9,055,423 entitled "Virtual Telephone Extension." The ‘423 patent is a continuation of United States Patent number 7,684,554 which was awarded to 8x8 on March 23, 2010.

The ‘423 patent relates to, among other things, methods of routing communications to users and associated equipment by utilizing a user identifier that serves as a virtual extension number. By utilizing the invention described by the patent, users can remotely direct their calls to communication devices at various geographic, voice mail and e-mail destinations.

Since its establishment, 8x8 has been awarded one hundred and seven (107) United States patents covering a variety of voice and video communications, signaling, processing and storage technologies.
