Sam's Club® Aims to Keep Dads Healthy by Offering Free Screenings for Men's Health Month

BENTONVILLE, Ark.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

According to a national survey, three quarters of dads say being a father is their most important job.1 While taking care of their children is a clear priority, when it comes to themselves, two thirds of men only respond to medical emergencies instead of being proactive about their health.2 In honor of Men's Health Month and with Father's Day just around the corner, Sam's Club wants to help dads stay healthy for their families by offering free health screenings to both members and the public.

These "His Health" screenings are free, confidential and available at all Sam's Club locations with a pharmacy (608 locations) on Saturday, June 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The screenings are valued at $2503 and include tests for:

  • PSA (prostate-specific antigen) – This test is used to screen men ages 40 and over for prostate cancer by checking the blood level of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate gland
  • Blood pressure
  • Total cholesterol
  • HDL (good cholesterol)
  • Risk ratio
  • Glucose
  • Body mass index (BMI)
  • Vision (not available at all locations)

Dads today are more engaged than ever but many prioritize their families' health over their own," said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president of Sam's Club Health and Wellness. "Sam's Club is proud to make it easier for these men to be proactive about their health by offering free screenings, including a PSA test for prostate cancer. In addition to monthly health screenings, Sam's Club Pharmacies provide savings and preventive care to each community they serve, such as year-round immunizations for children and adults.* Licensed pharmacists can administer walk-in flu shots and nine other important immunizations, including the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine.
