Blended Academy Recognized in 2015 Best High School Rankings

Lansing, Mich. (PRWEB) May 21, 2015

Nexus Academy of Lansing, a blended, tuition-free public high school for students in grades 9-12, received bronze medal recognition by US News & World Report in its annual ranking of top US high schools. Less than 15 percent of high schools across the country achieve this ranking.

"This wonderful achievement is a result of the hard work and commitment our students, families and staff put forth each and every day," said Charlie Carver, principal at Nexus Academy of Lansing. "Being recognized among the top 15 percent of high schools in the country demonstrates the benefits of providing families with choices on the learning model best-suited for their children."

According to the US News & World Report website, the publication worked with RTI International, a North Carolina-based research firm, to create the 2015 Best High School rankings. More than 29,000 public high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia were reviewed to determine which schools excelled.

Nexus Academy of Lansing delivers a supportive blend of online and face-to-face instruction that's personalized to fit unique student needs, goals and interests. Students spend half of their instruction time in a brick-and-mortar school setting and the other half learning online, participating in the school's diverse and challenging course offering.

"Achieving this accomplishment reinforces that our students are receiving a high quality education," Carver stated. "This is a result of the time our teachers are able to spend working closely with each individual student, as well as the substantial resources available to our students online."

School rankings were developed based on overall student performance on state-required tests, how effectively schools educated their least-advantaged students – those of black, Hispanic and low-income backgrounds (US News & World Report) – and how well students were prepared for college based on participation in and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams.
