Third consecutive year company's emissions inventory report Climate Registered

SALT LAKE CITY, April 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On the heels of Earth Day, USANA has achieved Climate Registered™ status by successfully measuring its carbon footprint according to The Climate Registry's best-in-class program, then having it third party verified and reporting the data on The Registry's website. USANA Health Sciences, Inc. joins more than 300 other leading organizations across North America in adopting a truly sustainable approach to doing business.

Measuring their carbon footprint with The Registry allows USANA to prepare for future regulation, identify inefficiencies and potential for cost savings, and provide real and meaningful data to their customers and shareholders about their environmental performance. It is the first step towards reducing their energy usage, costs and carbon emissions.

"Living the USANA lifestyle isn't just about health and financial freedom. It's about making the world a better place for future generations through consistent, meaningful environmental efforts," says Kevin Guest, USANA president. "We truly care about our planet that is home to all of us and are constantly working to reduce our environmental impact."

USANA is a global nutritional company that manufactures high-quality supplements and personal care and energy products. Based in Salt Lake City, the company strives to make the world a healthier place, starting in its own back yard.

The USANA Green Initiative

  • Decreases greenhouse gases emitted by 1/3 – from 1.2 pounds of carbon dioxide for every product made in 2008 to .8 pounds in 2013
  • Saves 2.67 million gallons of water a year by planting plants that require very little water and using drip systems to distribute water only where it's needed
  • Recycles more than 50 percent of its waste
  • Rooftop solar panels generate 60 percent of its power:
    • Keep 190,000 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere
    • Keep 270 pounds of sulfur dioxide out of the atmosphere
    • Keep 330 pounds of nitrogen oxide out of the atmosphere
  • Incentives for employees who carpool and drive energy-efficient vehicles

"Climate Registered organizations understand that there are both environmental and economic benefits to understanding and managing your carbon footprint," said David Rosenheim, Executive Director of The Climate Registry. "USANA has become part of a powerful community of Climate Registered organizations, with substantive data guiding and supporting its sustainable activities."
