FINDLAY, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The Cooper Tire plant in Texarkana, Ark. has been certified as a Superior Energy Performance® (SEP™) facility at the Gold level by the U.S. Department of Energy. The plant was recognized for implementing International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 50001, which provides a framework of requirements for organizations to develop policies for more efficient use of energy, set targets to meet the policies, use data to drive decisions about energy use and measure results, continually improving energy management. In addition to meeting ISO 50001, Cooper Texarkana met the SEP program's additional standards, improving energy performance by more than 10 percent over 3 years, earning the Gold distinction.

"We congratulate Cooper Tire on using SEP to demonstrate energy management excellence and sustained energy performance improvement," said Mark Johnson, Director, Advanced Manufacturing Office, U.S. Department of Energy. "SEP certification requires facilities to meet the ISO 50001 energy management standard and to measure and verify the energy performance improvement. SEP certification speaks highly of Cooper's dedication and hard work. It is also a clear signal that Cooper is an industry leader in energy management."

"As part of our overall sustainability efforts, Cooper is committed to reducing energy usage at all of our facilities worldwide," said Tom Wood, Cooper's Director, Global Environmental Affairs. "We are proud that our Texarkana plant has earned SEP Gold certification, a significant accomplishment that requires innovative thinking, targeted goal setting, effective execution and continued measurement of performance with a strong commitment to continuous improvement."
