"U.S. Bank volunteers will engage students in a variety of activities including classroom discussions, a ‘lunch and learn', online games and financial literacy lessons," said Erica Opstad, vice president and managing director of Corporate Citizenship and Community Relations. "Students will take part in Q and A sessions with our bankers, providing the teens with insights into careers in the financial services industry, and addressing personal finance questions."

Students at these schools are taking online courses through the U.S. Bank Financial Genius Scholars Program powered by EverFi, which provides real-world scenarios and knowledge to sharpen personal finance skills. U.S. Bank's flagship program takes high school age students on web-based tours and training courses. Students go through a self-paced six to eight hour online training course and receive a certificate of completion if they pass all of their modules. Topics Include: Savings & Budgeting, Understanding a Credit Score and its Implications, Understanding Credit Cards & Managing Debt, How a Bank Works & Federal Reserve overview, Taxes and Insurance, Renting vs. Owning, Managing Loans to Finance a Higher Education, Investing Overview and Consumer Fraud and Protection.

Financial education is essential in building healthy financial habits for life. During the 2013-2014 school year, more than 4,000 high school students participated in the U.S. Bank Financial Genius Scholars Program, of which 2,200 were certified by completing all of the learning modules. Since the program's inception in 2010, more than 10,000 students have been reached.

In addition, U.S. Bank is also offering high school seniors, current and prospective college students the opportunity to earn a $5,000 scholarship though the U.S. Bank Financial Genius Scholarship Program (#financialgenius). To participate, applicants are required to complete all eight Financial Genius for Life online learning modules that cover key concepts for building financial wellness. The program will provide five students with $5,000 to use toward any eligible two- or four-year educational institution. U.S. Bank has provided more than $500,000 in scholarships over the past 19 years. By incorporating financial education into the scholarship process, U.S. Bank helps ensure students are successful both inside and outside of the classroom.
