NEW HAVEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Higher One, a leading provider of financial services and data analytics to more than 1,900 colleges and universities across the U.S., has partnered with Junior Achievement (JA), a non-profit youth organization, for the sixth consecutive year to offer a day of service – or "JA in a Day" – to elementary school students in New Haven.

On March 6, 21 New Haven-based Higher One employees volunteered in 14 classrooms at Columbus Family Academy in New Haven and brought Junior Achievement's curriculum to students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Higher One took part in Junior Achievement of Southwest New England serving more than 300 students that day. Higher One volunteers taught students about community, entrepreneurship and the global marketplace.

"Junior Achievement's curriculum is important to Higher One not only because it aligns with our focus on youth empowerment and student success, but also because it is inclusive of economic and personal finance basics, a subject Higher One is passionate about," said Marc Sheinbaum, CEO at Higher One and former member of Junior Achievement of New York's board of directors. "Our partnership with Junior Achievement has afforded our employees an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students in our local community while supporting initiatives that our organization cares about deeply."

JA in a Day is the principal event organized each year by Higher One CARES (Community Action for Resources Education and Service), a group formed by employees at Higher One to help identify opportunities for community involvement and engagement. Higher One has been previously honored by Junior Achievement for its dedication to community service and its commitment to public education.

Higher One CARES has forged strong partnerships with community groups in New Haven, among them Junior Achievement and United Way. This past fall Higher One CARES sponsored the New Haven Reads annual Spelling Bee and facilitated a Thanksgiving Food Drive. If you have an event or program that aligns itself with the Higher One CARES mission, please contact Higher One CARES Communications Director Lauren Perry (lperry@higherone.com).
