MADISON, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

In just one month, more than 70 Duquesne University faculty have created academic videos using the desktop recording tool My Mediasite by Sonic Foundry, Inc. SOFO, the trusted global leader for video creation and management solutions.

The university deployed My Mediasite campus-wide last month, giving faculty and staff access to record, upload, manage and publish their own videos using their laptop's built-in camera.

"We're seeing My Mediasite used a variety of ways —faculty are recording videos for exam reviews, others are creating videos for use in their flipped classrooms and others are capturing their lectures live in the classroom for on-demand viewing," said Lauren Turin, manager, Media Services and Distribution Center, Duquesne University. "My Mediasite is a simple, effective video creation tool that is meeting a variety of academic needs."

Duquesne University has used Mediasite since 2005 to capture what's happening in lecture halls, classrooms and special events on campus, such as graduations, guest speakers, music recitals and religious services and weddings at the campus chapel. Those recordings are available to students live and on-demand on their desktops and mobile devices through Duquesne's learning management system, Blackboard. Mediasite Enterprise Video Platform ensures the content is searchable, secure and organized in one place.

"A lot of our students are bringing mobile devices to class. They're using eBooks and computerized testing. Mediasite really fits well with our students' lifestyles. If they're in between classes or not near a computer, they can pull up the recordings on their phones or tablets and view the lectures right there," said Joseph Seidel, Director of Technology, School of Nursing.

"Students have come to expect the very best academic video technology in their classrooms and because of that student demand, our customers are creating video-driven campuses with Mediasite at the heart. Faculty and students alike are creating Mediasite presentations at a prolific rate, increasing 49 percent annually at colleges and universities around the world," said Gary Weis, Sonic Foundry CEO. "By adding My Mediasite to its enterprise video strategy, Duquesne University is accelerating even wider use of video. We're excited to continue our decade-long work with Duquesne by introducing anytime, anywhere secure video creation and publishing to the campus."

Trusted by 1,400 colleges and universities, the patented Mediasite webcasting and video content management system quickly and cost-effectively automates the capture, management, delivery and search of live and on-demand videos and rich media.
