BETHESDA, Md., March 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Five Lockheed Martin LMT engineers were recognized with Asian American Engineer of the Year (AAEOY) awards during the 2015 AAEOY Awards Gala held in Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 28.

At the gala several Asian-American professionals from leading U.S. technology companies, research institutions and the U.S. armed forces were recognized for their achievements and leadership in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) community.

Among this year's winners were:

  • Mahesh Kalva of Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions in Rockville, Maryland, who received the Asian American Executive of the Year Award. Kalva currently leads technology and engineering for a business unit that employs over 1,000 engineers, technologists, health care professionals and scientists.
  • Dr. YC Yiu of Lockheed Martin Space Systems in Sunnyvale, California, who received the Asian American Engineer of the Year Award. As a recognized expert in shock, vibration and spacecraft dynamics, Dr. Yiu was recognized for his contributions to the success of many critical space systems.
  • Dr. Somuri Prasad of Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who received the Asian American Engineer of the Year Award. Dr. Prasad was recognized for his pioneering contributions to the science and applications of tribology (interacting surfaces in relative motion), and mentorship of graduate students, postdoctoral associates and early career staff.
  • Tina Lim of Lockheed Martin Space Systems in Sunnyvale, California, who received the Asian American Most Promising Engineer Award. Lim was recognized for her technical achievements in missile technology and her commitment to enhancing STEM education for young women.
  • Dr. Patrick Feng of Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who received the Asian American Most Promising Engineer Award. Dr. Feng was recognized for his groundbreaking contributions to the field of organic-based radiation detection materials, and exemplary technical leadership in collaborative new program development.

Launched in 2002 by the Chinese Institute of Engineers-USA, the AAEOY Award honors outstanding Asian-American professionals in science and engineering for their leadership, technical achievement and remarkable public service. Past recipients included Nobel laureates, academia, key corporate executives and astronauts.
