COLUMBUS, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Synovus Financial Corp. SNV, the Columbus, Georgia-based financial services company, today announced the selection of Kevin P. Gowen as Chief Information Security Officer.

"Kevin has a proven track record of building successful teams, and his previous leadership roles in various operational and technology areas make him the right choice to lead our information security group," said Al Gula, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer for Synovus. "I am confident, with his guidance and oversight, we will continue building innovative, enterprise-wide information security plans and systems to protect sensitive customer data, and facilitate ongoing, comprehensive, and effective business continuity planning."

Gowen joined Synovus in 1996 and has served in various operational and leadership roles in technology and procurement. In 2008, he was named to the position of Senior Director of Procurement. He was named Chief Procurement Officer and Group Executive, Procurement and Corporate Real Estate, in 2011. He previously worked for IBM for 17 years before coming to Synovus.

He is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering.
