MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

As a launch partner of the American Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute (ALMMII), Materion Corporation MTRN will join nearly 100 other manufacturing companies, universities, research institutions and industry associations for the ribbon cutting and opening ceremony of the ALMMII's new technology development center in Detroit on January 15, 2015. The new ALMMII facility will serve as the organization's regional hub, housing offices, meeting rooms, and training and laboratory space.

ALMMII is part of President Obama's National Network of Manufacturing Innovation, an initiative to accelerate the development and adoption of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies for lightweight materials that improve mission capability and energy utilization of land, sea and air transportation. The institute's efforts encompass the entire transportation supply chain, nurturing innovations from conception through design, development, and production.

The ribbon cutting event will showcase the organization's vision for how lightweight materials can reshape manufacturing in the United States and how partner organizations are supporting that agenda.

“We are pleased to be an establishing partner of the ALMMII and to be on hand to celebrate the opening of its new facility in Detroit,” states Glenn Maxwell, President of Materion's Performance Metals Group. “It's exciting to have the opportunity to showcase our expertise providing materials solutions such as powder metallurgy and to be part of the initiative to bring these innovative materials to market more quickly.”

ALMMII is a 501c(3) founded by EWI, University of Michigan, and The Ohio State University. It was established to develop and deploy advanced lightweight metals manufacturing technologies, and implement education and training programs to prepare the workforce.
