BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. HST, the nation's largest lodging real estate investment trust ("REIT"), has been recognized by environmental non-profit CDP as a leader among S&P 500 companies for corporate action on climate change and for climate change transparency. Additionally, Host was recognized by the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) as the Global Sector Leader for Hotels and achieved Green Star status.

This is the second year that Host has attained a position on CDP's S&P 500 Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI). This year, Host received the highest performance band of "A" for climate performance assessment and is one of only 34 S&P 500 companies featured in the 2014 S&P 500 CPLI.  The annual index spotlights companies listed on the S&P 500 Index that have demonstrated a commitment to managing climate change by integrating it into their business strategy and taking actionable steps to mitigate climate-related risk.

Host also achieved a position on CDP's S&P 500 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) highlighting the company's high level of transparency and data quality in the disclosure of climate-related information. The companies in the top 10% for disclosure scores are awarded a position on the CDLI.  Host achieved a score of 98 on a scale of 100.

GRESB named Host as Global Sector Leader for the Hotels property type, which recognizes the top performer within the Hotels sector.  For the second year in a row, Host also achieved Green Star status, the highest possible designation based on relative score, which recognizes outstanding management and implementation of key sustainability issues. The 2014 GRESB Survey looked at data from 637 listed property companies and private equity real estate funds around the world, covering 56,000 assets.

"Host is proud to receive leadership recognition by both CDP and GRESB for our performance this year," said Joanne Hamilton, Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Executive Champion of Corporate Responsibility at Host. "Over the past few years, we have focused our efforts into three areas, Responsible Investment, Environmental Stewardship, and Corporate Citizenship, which has enabled us to be more strategic and integrated in managing our environmental, social, and governance impacts."
