A Peek Into The Markets: U.S. Stock Futures Edge Higher Ahead Of Fed Speakers

 

Pre-open movers

U.S. stock futures traded slightly higher in early pre-market trade. The index of leading economic indicators for October will be released at 10:00 a.m. ET, while the Kansas City Fed manufacturing index for November is schedule for release at 11:00 a.m. ET. Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank President Esther George will speak at oil conference in Houston at 9:30 a.m. ET, while New York Federal Reserve Bank President William Dudley is set to speak at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York at 9:35 a.m. ET. Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Robert Kaplan will speak at the Dallas and Kansas City Fed's oil conference in Houston, Texas at 1:30 p.m. ET, while Federal Reserve Governor Jerome Powell is set to speak in San Francisco at 9:45 p.m. ET.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 6 points to 18,875.00, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 index futures gained 1 point to 2,184.75. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index gained 4.50 points to 4,833.00.

Oil prices traded higher as Brent crude futures rose 0.62 percent to trade at $46.78 per barrel, while US WTI crude futures also rose 0.57 percent to trade at $46.24 a barrel. The Baker Hughes North American rig count report for the latest week will be released at 1:00 p.m. ET.


A Peek Into Global Markets

European markets were mostly lower today, with the Spanish Ibex Index dropping 0.93 percent, STOXX Europe 600 Index falling 0.22 percent and German DAX 30 index gaining 0.01 percent. The UK's FTSE index was trading lower by 0.17 percent, while French CAC 40 Index fell 0.25 percent.

In Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average rose 0.59 percent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index gained 0.37 percent, China’s Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.49 percent and India’s BSE Sensex declined 0.30 percent.

Analysts at KeyBanc downgraded Papa John's Int'l, Inc. PZZA from Overweight to Sector Weight.

Papa John's shares rose 1.55 percent to close at $86.92 on Thursday.
