) reported a gain in its profit for the fourth quarter. Royal Dutch Shell's quarterly profit, on a current cost-of-supplies basis, surged to $4.2 billion, up from $2.2 billion, in the year-ago period. Its quarterly net income slipped 57% to $773 million. Cash flow from operating activities for the quarter surged to $9.6 billion from $6.0 billion. Oil and gas production in the quarter slipped 1% y/y to 3,213 thousand boe/d. Oil products sales volumes rose 6%, while chemicals sales volumes for the quarter slipped 12%. For the full year, the company's current-cost-of-supplies profit climbed to $22.6 billion from $19.5 billion. During the quarter, total cash dividends paid to shareholders were $3.0 billion. At the end of 2014, gearing was 12.2%, down from 16.1% at the end of 2013. Royal Dutch Shell shares fell 2.72% to $65.32 in pre-market trading.
