The Chicago-based airline estimated that its revenue per available seat mile grew in September by 3.5 percent to 4 percent.
United said its third-quarter consolidated fuel price, including the impact of cash-settled hedges. will be $3.01 a gallon. That's down about 2 percent from the second quarter, when United reported $3.08 a gallon including hedges.
The company also cut its forecast for third-quarter capital spending to between $470 million and $490 million because of shift of spending plans into the fourth quarter.
United also said it expects its third-quarter 2014 cargo revenue to be between $225 million and $245 million and expects its third-quarter 2014 "other" revenue to be between $1 billion and $1.02 billion.
In the extended session United changed hands recently up 3.6 percent at $45.43 a share.
