Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) reported a rise in its fourth-quarter profit.

Delta's quarterly profit surged to $8.48 billion, or $9.89 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $7.00 million, or $0.01 per share. Its adjusted earnings came in at $0.65 per share.

Its total operating revenue climbed to $9.08 billion from $8.60 billion. However, analysts were projecting earnings of $0.63 per share on revenue of $9.03 billion.

Delta's passenger unit revenue jumped 3%.

Delta shares closed $31.07 on Friday.
