UPDATE: DuPont Posts Upbeat Q3 Profit

reported an increase in its third-quarter profit. DuPont's quarterly income surged to $285 million, or $0.30 per share, from $5 million, or around break-even per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding special items, it earned $0.45 per share. Its sales climbed 4.7% to $7.74 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $0.41 per share on revenue of $7.78 billion. DuPont shares closed at $59.46 yesterday.
