Citrix Systems (NASDAQ: CTXS) reported a rise in its fourth-quarter profit.

Citrix's quarterly profit surged to $114 million, or $0.60 per share, from $109 million, or $0.58 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time items, it earned $0.90 per share.

Its revenue climbed to $740 million, from $619 million. However, analysts expected earnings of $0.84 per share on revenue of $705.8 million.

For the first quarter, Citrix projects earnings of $0.62 to $0.63 per share on revenue of $670 million to $680 million.

Citrix shares surged 11.12% to $74.43 in after-hours trading.
